A Message from Our Pastor

Welcome to St. Andrew Lutheran Church at the corner of Centre and Morewood in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh, PA. My name is Janet Grill and I am the pastor here. St. Andrew is a congregation rooted in Word and Sacrament and Christian community. Together as the people of God in this place, we work to share the good news of Jesus Christ through our words and our actions. Our motto, which we live out fervently but imperfectly, is "Love Everyone; Exclude No One."

St. Andrew celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1991. Through the years, we have changed in the style of ministry, but have always worked to be faithful to the gospel. Dial-A-Prayer, a ministry that offers a scripture reading, meditation and prayer each day, was begun in 1954. Over 4 million calls have been received and now we are online. The Lutheran Student foundation began in this building and St. Andrew maintains close ties with this ministry. Today, we are home to the Friday Evening Women's Alcoholic Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Co-Dependents United support group. We host Coal Country Tradition dancing classes. Our building enables others to do ministry.

Our ministries include leading worship at the Allegheny County Jail, Forbes Nursing Center and St. Joseph Villa. We support the ministries of East End Cooperative Ministries, especially their food bank and men's shelter dinners. We actively seek to share Christ's love with the people around us and to energize our members for ministry.

St. Andrew is a "family of choice" to those who worship here. Our first floor (including the sanctuary and social hall) is fully accessible. We are a Reconciled in Christ congregation, meaning we have a welcome statement to actively include gays and lesbians. We have a nursery during worship and Sunday School for children and adults.
